New rules, new game: EUSA Water Polo 2025 gets a fresh twist

The European universities water polo championship in Vukovar 2025 will be played under brand-new water polo rules, officially tested at some international events.

Here’s what’s changing:

  • Shorter field of play – The pool length is reduced from 30m to 25m, bringing the action closer and intensifying gameplay

  • Reduced possession – Teams now have 25 seconds instead of 30 to complete an attack, allowing for more dynamic play setups.

  • Extended halftime – The break between the 2nd and 3rd quarters is now 5 minutes (previously 3), giving players more time to reset and coaches more room for strategy.

These changes aim to improve tempo, strategy, and overall excitement, and Vukovar will be one of the first cities in Europe to host a university championship under these conditions.

Stay tuned as we count down to tip-off.
